Blaurenz Duo

Rebecca Lawrence and Rebecca Blau are searching for a common sound between double bass and flute. They met as members of the International Ensemble Modern Academy 2021/22 and with not only the same name, but also the same birthday, built a deep relationship across the ensemble. During their time in IEMA the duo worked intensively on the the piece Ira-Arca by Beat Furrer, which became a core part of their repertoire, and from which sprang the impetus to continue developing their instrument combination. As Blaurenz Duo, they are prizewinners at various competitions including Reate Festival in Rome 2024 (1st place), Re_cre@ Festival in Castellon de la Plana 2025 (2nd place), and they received an honorable mention for the Kranichsteiner Music Prize at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in 2023. Blaurenz Duo will be the ensemble in residence for the Bludenzer Tage Zeitgemäßer Musik in 2025, where 6 new pieces will be written for them by students of the composition masterclass, under the direction of Mirela Ivičević and Elena Rykova. Currently the Rebecca’s play together in Ensemble Scope, a young ensemble for experimental, multimedial contemporary music.
